"Mo Sistas" & "Little Mo Sistas"

Just as men have done their part in supporting women during the month of October for breast cancer awareness, women are stepping up in their support of men’s health during November…or as we call it, Movember.

Movember is all about men’s health and bringing awareness to pancreatic cancer, testicular cancer and all other health concerns men have to deal with.

According to the Movember website, Mo Sistas are champions of Movember, rallying the men in their lives to join the movement, grow moustaches and have important conversations about men’s health.

To date, the Movember community of “Mo Bros” and “Mo Sistas” worldwide have raised $559 million since the start of the tradition and have funded over 800 programs in 21 countries.

Take your pictures.  Make it fun.  Donate.

Real People. Real Style.

My passion for styling touches every area of my life.  The thrill of refining and perfecting energies me every single day.  This passion has led me to a full redesign of my website - launching today! - where women looking to honor their true style can find style tips, resources, look book inspiration and, best of all, real life stories of women I have worked with to restyle their look and their wardrobes.

In my Woman of the Week section today, you'll find the lovely and talented Sara, a mother of three who was oh-so-ready to re-do her look...and within a reasonable budget.

Sara - Janel Dyan's Woman of the Week
"Janel started with my closet and helped me to rediscover the pieces I loved and then helped me select new pieces to complete my own individual look."

While working with clients, I am committed to guiding them in finding their signature style and then creating a real path to using that style to feel great every day, no matter what they're doing.

Just Mascara

In 2009, my second son was a few months old. One day, I was having a conversation with a mommy friend. It went like this:

Favoite Brands:  Perricon MDStila
Urban Decay Big FattyBlinc
Friend: "You wear workout clothes everyday. You should wear jeans and a cute top sometime."
Janel:  "Why? I'm comfortable in these and I'm just at home with the boys."
Friend:  "Just try a different look. You have all these clothes in here (opening up my closet)."
Janel:  "I should try ... but it takes too much energy."
Friend:  "How about starting with mascara?"
Janel:  "Mascara? Why? I'm not going out."
Friend:  "But you are starting your day. Take those extra 30 seconds. You'll feel different. Trust me."

So I did. Every morning. Whether I wanted to or not, the little voice said, "just mascara". Makeup or no makeup, my lashes were done.

I own four tubes of mascara at all times. One in my car. One in my purse. One in my travel tote. One in my makeup drawer.

I do feel better. It's a reminder to take care of myself, even if it's just mascara.

The CR Flask Bracelet

This is the bracelet that I HAD to have. I absolutely love it!  I have worn this beauty in Hawaii, at the Kentucky Derby, out to dinner with friends and, most recently, in Sonoma at our close friends' wedding.  Fill it up or keep it dry, this bracelet is the perfect accessory.

Paired with skinny jeans, graphic tee & a blazer or your little black dress & heels, it is a must for this season.  Great conversation starter, incredible design and a beautiful piece.  Worth every penny...enjoy!

The Black Skinny Goes Out

After a long week, nothing is better than spending time with friends or going out on a date with my husband.  Here’s how it works in my world:
Friday evening is finally here.  Work is done, boys are about to sit down for dinner and the babysitter is arriving in 30 minutes.  One look in the mirror and it’s simple: I’m not ready at all for my night out.
I haven’t even thought about what I’m going to wear.  I am still feeling pretty awesome that I was even able to find a sitter, spend some quality time with the boys and make dinner… totally failed to figure out an outfit.  I need it to be simple, quick to throw together & to look effortless.
So, I start with the most essential piece of my outfit, the foundation of the night’s look.
Black skinny jeans.  Check.  (Already have them on.)
Change the top, step into some high heels; grab a clutch and a bit of jewelry, touch up the mascara and add lipstick.  Done.
20 min later…kiss the boys good night, thank the babysitter and I’m out the door.

Personal favorite:  Black from head to toe.  Black top, black skinny jeans & black heels seem to make any look exponentially sexier.  Grab a killer coat for the chill outside.  Gorgeous.
